Glock Mag Spring, and Press Check Problems

After spending a week in AZ training with my G21 I found out some interesting things.

At the end of last year I was having feed problems. In part is was due to the ammo, and the mag springs. I replaced all my mag springs with Wolff. Still having the problem I switched back to Glock mag springs, and not one feed issue. All the other Wolff springs I have used work just fine.

As part of the daily drills when making ready you would do a press check, and mag check. With the standard 17 lb recoil spring I found the slide would not all ways go back into battery. When it did not go into battery I would get a light primer strike, click no bang. So I go into the habit of hitting the back of the slide with the heel of my weak hand, after the press check.

Is that a Glock thing? I'd never heard of it before (don't own any Glocks) - whenever I press check I just watch the back of the slide and make sure its flush with the frame (1911 and Sig).

No, its not a Glock thing its a pistol thing in general.

I'm suspecting the slide is being "ridden" as the gun is loaded, the press check is being done improper, or the recoil spring needs replaced. Either way, it doesnt really matter, because its an excellent habit to make sure the gun is in battery anyway.

Don't use aftermarket parts. My old Glock 19 had a trigger spring die and I replaced it with an aftermarket spring. The aftermarket spring broke about 200 - 300 rounds later. When I went back to the gunsmith I told him to use a Glock spring, and 2000 - 3000 rounds later I am still shooting.
