    Clips vs Mags

We all have pet peeves..probably one of my BIGGEST pet peeves is lazy bums not returning a shopping cart to a cart corral, and maybe my 2nd biggest peeve is folks who "seem" to know abt guns but insist on calling a magazine a CLIP! If I go to a gun shop, and the guy behind the counter tells me that the gun comes with an extgra clip, he has lost all my interest as he has no clue what he is talking abt and I really do not like to deal with ignorance...so for those of you on this bbs who are not sure what a clip is, study the pictures below

This is a CLIP! Sometimes referred to as a "Stripper clip"..you would place the rounds into the breech and push down on the rounds stripping them from the clip and into the magazine.

This is the CLIP compared to a Magazine, NOTE THE DIFFERENCE? A Clip is not a Magazine and vice versa.

Now I feel better...glad to have been of some help to some of you out there, now you know.

Hold firm tho - cos however much you try and spread the word - it will never sink in for some (maybe many!).

Always worth trying of course! Can't help the facetious thought too - does Dad give Jr a clip round the ear? Or use a magazine (Guns-n-Ammo maybe!?)

Something I heard on another board once, and that I like to bring out from time to time:

"Every time someone calls a magazine a clip, God kills a kitten."
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

: OPFOR--I will use that one in the future

and yes...the Clip vs. Mag terminology drives me nutz...

kinda like the "Glock 9mm revolver" I read about in a newspaper article. It's a wonder these people have a grip on the English language.
Magazine <> clip - know the difference

The "assault rifle" things gets me worked up as well. I hear it in the shop all the time, technically its a semi auto rifle, but after i beat you over the head with it, it becomes an assault rifle.

The media calling a hi point carbine an "assault rifle" gets me too.

I was watching Cops the other night, and a LEO pulled a magazine out of some maroon's pocket and told the camera about the 'clip.'

I respect your peeve. I try not to fret over this one. Note that some manufacturer's manuals will call an obvious magazine a clip. Go figure.

It’s all just a matter of semantics really. The clip/mag thing doesn’t bother me at all. However the “assault rifle” thing drives me friggin crazy!
    Go figure.
