What's a Glock or XD?
Yes, this is unsafe and should be changed.
No, your safety is in your head and following the 4 rules.
Never had one, maybe never will.
Good point and the S&W M&P has the same issue - you have to stick something into the ejection port to move a lever down in order to remove the slide.
As an alternative you can pull the trigger instead. But if the M&P has the mag safety, you have to insert a mag in order to pull the trigger and that may be the worse case of all.
I'm too young to be this old!
Getting old isn't good for you!
The XD is different than the Glock as the slide has to be locked open first before pulling off the slide. So IMO the XD is safer than the Glock in taking the slide off.
I personally don't think it's a bad design at all. Think about it, sheesh......clearing the weapon is STEP 1 for cleaning any handgun or rifle.
Glocks are so stinking simple to operate, they're almost foolproof. Drop the mag, rack the slide to remove the chambered round and visually inspect the chamber is clear, release the slide and pull the trigger.
It's not brain surgery, right?
Nothing is fool-proof, because fools are so persistent.
