First Time at the Range with .38 Super
All the stars came together for me a month or so ago when I found a customized LW Commander (~1956/57) in .38 Super for sale. I had been searching for a while for one, but there never seemed to be a good time to buy before this.
The gun had as many bells and whistles as I thought I needed and none that I didn't: ramped barrel, ambi-safety, front strap checkering, 3-dot sights, lowered ejection port and a few nice cosmetic touches. And I had money in my "fun" account!!
I finally got out to the range with some Georgia Ammo 124 gr Gold Dots @ 1300fps and some 125 lead RNs that I reloaded to about 1100 fps
After straightening out some issues with a magazine (of the 4 I got with it), I had a great time! The LW was a pleasure to shoot, snappy but controllable. Every once in a while my reloads needed a tap fully seat, but the other ammo ran through smoothly.
I had initially squeezed too hard on the grip (never having shot .38S or an auto that felt so light) and the curved mainspring housing helped push my shots up and right (left hand shooter), but I adjusted. - Might have to go to a flat MSH. The grooved trigger got to be a little irritating (I don't shoot as much as I used to and the callous is gone) and a smooth trigger may also be forthcoming.
It carries nicely in a holster I got from Ray's Leather in the Askins Avenger style. The few ounces lighter than my Kimber are noticeable.
All told, a great day at the range and a satisfying buy.
Hope you all find your dream gun some day! Shoot safely.

Sounds good. I like the flat MSH myself. Like Bud said , lets see some pics.

I like the .38 Super cartridge. I prefer the 1911 with it. You have made a great find. Good luck with it.
