    Surprising New Addition

Ah thanksgiving. Took the wife and my 2 boys to the in-laws this year for a change. Nice weather. (oh it did snow) Good food. Good visit.

My wife's family are serious white-tail deer/geese hunters and have been primarily most of my recent influence with shooting & "plinking" in general. So then the father-in-law told me to get his old Marlin Model 60 .22 that's been in the family since before time, and to take it home with me, to teach my boys how to shoot - I just sat there with a dumb look of disbelief as his oldest son looked on. (uh, son-in-laws don't "inherit" family guns do they?) - apparently I just did.

It appears to be in good shape - lots of "usage" wear, but hey it's character. It's even got an old "tv style" small scope I've never seen.

I am pretty sure I'm going to have to order a new recoil spring & guide. The bolt is very sticky and is sluggish to return to the closed position. My brother-in-law informed me he's recently cleaned it, but it didn't help with the action. He also told me she's a "little wild" in the accuracy dept. because of that. I found a website that offers parts at a good price, so I figured after Xmas I'd tune it up and take it to the range.

Well that's about it. Hope everyone else had a good thanksgiving.

    Thumbs up

    Great rifle.
Here is a real nice Wikipedia write-up on the Model 60 that will furnish you with some interesting background.

A thread I started way back on the High Road - on the takedown aspects of the rifle.

Marlin 60... an American classic. Take good care of her, so your grandkids can learn on it too.
