Sig P226/P220 question
This question is for you Sig enthusiasts out there. I carry a Sig P226 for work and was thinking about acquiring a P220. I thought someone told me once that a P226 and a P220 have identical frame dimesions and that if I had a P220 I could use it in all of my P226 holsters and vice versa. Thanks for the help.

Check the SIG website. It should give dimensions for both.

Yup, most holsters will work for both.

That depends.
My duty gun is a Sig 220, but I also own a 226 in 9mm and one in.357Sig.
The 226 fits well in my duty holster, and the several Fobus paddle holsters I have are interchangable in fact they say 220,226 on it.
The 226 grip is a bit wider than the 220 grip, not much but in some holsters it may make a difference.
If you have a Safariland Class 3 Holster, it list two different models, one for the 220 and one for the 226, but being a triple retention holster it may not work.
Since you are thinking of getting the 220 (exellent gun BTW)and using it with the 226 holster,I'd be willing to bet that your 220 would fit just fine.

Yep Holster makers state that holsters are for SIG 220 & 226.
They are the same.

Yep here too - my Eagle Defender for 226 ST with rails, let's the 220 sit there just fine. Certainly never been over critical of it's fit - suits for me.

As long as they both have rails or neither has rails it should be fine. I have a P220 w/ rail and a P226 w/o. The P226 does not fit the Comp-Tac MTAC for railed versions. On the other hand, both do fit my Blackhawk CQC nicely. The Safariland 6351 is for the P226 but does not fit the P220.
So, yeah, if the P220 is rail-identical to the P226, you should be good to go. If your leather shows any problems, you could always do the saran-wrap thing to slightly reshape the holster.

Hey thanks everyone. What, by the way, is the saran wrap thing?

Wrap your gun thoroughly in saran wrap, dampen inside of holster until the leather starts to give, then insert weapon and let stand for about 6 hours. Remove weapon and let the holster finish drying. This helps stretch a shaped holster a little if the fit is too snug.
Just so you know I am not making this up, it's on the FAQ at K&D Holsters.

I've never used Saran Wrap or wet the holster but I have had a few very tight holsters. I place my gun in the bag the holster came in and then holster the gun, let it sit a day or two and it's been fine.

Same holsters; but, differant dimensions for the grip to start with is one thing that I know.
