Old Shooting Pics & New Scanner

Now that I have my new scanner figured out, I thought I would share some pics from when I lived in Alaska. Enjoy!

Shooting my .44 Auto-Mag. This was supposed to be a promo shot for an indoor range in Anchorage, around 1977. The range never got off the ground, mainly because the owner didn't know what the hell he was doing.

Shooting my Ruger .44 SBH in a silhouette match in Anchorage, 1977.

Shooting my T-C Contender .357 Herrett in a silhouette match at Fort Richardson, 1978. This was a challenge match between IHMSA pistol shooters & NRA rifle silhouette shooters, shooting at the rifle distances (200 to 500 meters).

Spotting for a silhouette shooter in Glenallen, 1979.

When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan’s plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
And go to your God like a soldier.

Excellent Terry - great to see those thx.

Gives me an excuse to throw in one of my old scanned pics (you may have seen it b4) ... 1984 IIRC, Bisley Camp in UK. Long range pistol where we shot at 100 and 300 ... using our own home made support devices (we called them ''flying machines'' LOL).

Here I am using my Redhawk launching actually quite modest loads which at 300 I am sure prescribed a very graceful parabola ... but hit well with sights set right. Great sport.

Great pics. Make me homesick for Alaska, and I have never been there.

Looks like good times. I wasn't born yet. Maybe someday I'll have time to enjoy shooting like that...I sure hope so. Thanks for sharing

I got involved in NRA Hunter Pistol Silhouette and NRA Small Bore Silhouette back in the 1980s. I had a lot of fun and shot in the North Carolina Regionals in 1983 and the Nationals at Thomasville NC the same year. Even tied 1 match for high gun with the National Champion but my head swelled to big over night and the next match knocked me down to 2nd place AA. I used a Contender with 168 Gr Ray Thompson design swc w/gas check and 15.6 gr or 296 for 1515 FPS with my 10 inch .357 barrel. (for the NRA Hunter class) It's still a great shooting gun. I was in the Air Force then and even got permissive TDY to go and didn't have to take leave.
