Quite a find
So a few days ago one of my co-workers turns around and asks me and another gun nut if Mausers and Lugers are good guns. We say sure, why? He says he has some only guns he found when his grandfather died in a bowling bag. We described what a Luger looked like and he said that was it. Yesterday he brought in pictures and there were 4 guns.
1. Luger with factory holster and two magazines. He said there are numbers on the mags that match the numbers on the gun. From the picture this gun looks mint. There is also a note written in German inside the holster.
2. Mauser K98. Looks a little rough, but its still a bringback from the War. Its still cool and a good gun.
3. Small semi-auto handgun that looks like a mix between a Makarov and a Walther PPK. I'll have to see it in person.
4. Another semi-auto that looks like a mix between a Nambu and the 32acp Beretta used by the Italians during WWII. I'll have to see it to tell what it is.
Pretty crazy huh? The guy and his whole family have no interest in guns. Some people have all the luck.
Yeah I like Glocks, wanna fight about it!

He won't sell. He may not care about guns too much, but they are still things that were his grandfathers who has passed away. I don't think I could bring myself to buy them from him anyway. I would feel like I was taking advantage of him big time. That is unless he said he was going to sell them no matter what and I had 1st dibs.

and tell him to get the Luger appraised and insured, with matching #'s it should be interesting. One more thing, keep the note, it might place it in a specific place in time or link it to a person making it worth much more.

I am also happy to help with the German, if you like. I am curious to find out what the note says!

Do offer to care for them for him. Hate to see the ravages of rust and corrosion take its toll.
Besides, who knows if an opportunity to purchase might come up in the future.
One nice collectible handgun I've got came from a seller who initially didn't want to sell. I told her that I certainly understood and offered to clean it and preserve it, telling her should she ever change her mind to please keep me in mind. Some seven years later she remembered me.

Be careful about "cleaning" them, you just might do more harm than good. I'd just wipe them down with some oil and leave it at that.
I can translate too, I grew up speaking German.
