Either one sounds like a good deal and will get you started on the road to 1911 nirvana. I have personally owned the SA guns and they do not dissapoint, great customer service as well.

Haven't had much to do with the RIA, but I have two Springers, and will never trade them. I guess that is a vote for the Springfield!

I would go with the RIA, then save your money for a Loaded Springfield.

Rock Islands have a cast frame, Springers are forged, FWIW. Castings can be good, but personally I would prefer a forged frame.

I have 2 RIAs and 1 Springer. I carry my RIA GI every day. It is a great weapon, very reliable and was under $400.00 otd.

I compared the two at a gunshop side by side before I bought my GI Springer last week. Not to knock RIA's or anything, because they are great value priced 1911's, but you can tell where the extra $$$ is going with the Springer. It just seems machined a little nicer, plus I have heard nothing but praises for SA's customer service and to me that was worth the extra $$$. BTW, I love your avatar, fellow Ducatista.
