Didja know that a Hi Point .380 is a "high powered pistol"?

Yeah, according to this local news blurb appearing in The Palm Beach Post on 12/11/07...

A 28-year-old Indiantown felon was sentenced Monday to more than 27 years in federal prison after getting caught with a high-powered pistol in his car.

Martin County sheriff's deputies pulled over Sammie Scales' car in Indiantown and took him into custody on an unrelated arrest warrant, according to U.S. District Court records.

During his arrest they found bags full of crack cocaine and marijuana in his pockets and a loaded .380-caliber Hi-Point ACP pistol in the car, the report said.

Prosecutors said the charges of possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of a firearm in the commission of a federal crime were brought as part of the U.S. Attorney's Operation Hard Time for Gun Crime program and the Department of Justice's Project Safe Neighborhoods, both designed to combat gun crimes.

Scales, who pleaded guilty to the charges Sept. 5, has several felony convictions on drug-trafficking and other charges dating back to 1999 and qualified for a more severe sentence under the federal armed career criminal category.
    So there ya have it: a Hi-Point .380 is a "high-powered pistol"!

If you want, write a letter to the editor of The Post at letters@pbpost.com or write to the paper's editorial ombudsman (C.B. Hanif) at the Listening Post, lp@pbpost.com (that's LP). Let them know what you think about their firearms knowledge and expertise. I'm about to do just that.

    The only high-powered thing a Hi-Point will deliver is a high-powered laugh.

Maybe if you can't gut-shoot him because the gun malfunctions, he'll be hurt by his belly-laughing...

I sent off a nice letter to the paper about this inaccuracy.

"Hi-Point ACP pistol" I wonder if anyone even knows what ACP means to place it there in the sentence.

I would send a letter griping about their ignorance, but I'm sure it would be summarily disregarded.

There you go. Another example of knee-jerk sensationalism. The sad thing is that there millions of people out there who read stuff like this... and have no clue whether it is true or not.

Hardly millions. Newspaper circulation is way down in general exactly because of newspaper articles like that one.
Left leaning liberal newspapers are dying a slow & painful death all over the United States. Their credibility has vanished.
I canceled both my local newspaper subscriptions and like the real millions...I get all of my news off the Internet and Michael Savage on talk radio.

I have yet to see the media get any kind of firearms reporting right.

A few months ago there was a cop in Philly who was unfortunately gunned down by a scumbag robbing a Dunkin Donuts. The media kept referring to the BG taking the cops "service revolver" after shooting him.

Still though, I advise you not to stand in front of one and laugh at the man holding it. You might be in for more than a good laugh.

Back to the original post -- If this is what it takes to get the felon off of the street for violating the firearms law, that is good enough for me.

That's nothing. I once sent a correction to The Palm Beach Post shaming them because they had described a cop's gun as a "semi-automatic service revolver."
