Sheldon I. Hochman of Mount Holly was charged after security screeners at Rutland Southern Vermont State Airport found the pistol along with loose ammunition in a fanny pack in July 2006.

The 62-year-old Hochman was headed to Alaska for his honeymoon when it happened. He says he didn't mean to pack the pistol and that he'd used sleeping pills and alcohol the night before that might have interfered with his memory.

The jury deliberated less than two hours before acquitting Hochman.

His lawyer says prosecutors couldn't show Hochman acted intentionally.
