So we've all seen the concealed carry gun threads, and the "What Do You Carry" thread. But the thread on the new Ruger Challenger has inspried me and I want to see everyones plinking guns.
Marlin 917 VS .17HMR w/ Swift 3-9 scope and Harris 6"-9" Bipod
very nice,
i dont yet have a plinking gun.
my next gun will be a good ol' full size 1911 with a .22 conversion kit
until then, if i have the need to shoot a .22, i use our clubs mkIIs
My second-favorite gun I own... useless for self defense, but DAMN accurate for plinking and a lot of fun to shoot.
It's a Hi-Standard Supermatic model 102 Citation, manufactured sometime in the late 60s. I inherited it from an aunt who passed away. .22 cal, 10 rd clip (having problems finding more magazines for it... any ideas?), 9" barrel with factory muzzle break.
Shown assembled, and field stripped with a cigarette lighter for size comparison.
Not to brag, on a good day I can hold sub 2" groups at 50 yards free standing with this gun, but most of my shooting is done in the woods, not at a range... I can hit bottles and cans at 150 yards probably 8 times out of 10. But I've put *thousands* of rounds through this gun, and probably shot it more than any other gun I own. It's cheap and fun to shoot, I love this gun. It could use rebluing soon, too. Anyone know a good 'smith in the greater Seattle area?
I know nothing about that gun, but the magazine looks a whole lot like the one for my Ruger 22/45. (Okay, so all .22LR mags probably look alike, but I thought I'd chime in... :duh
2. Springfield Model 55 B, from wife's grandfather.
3. Wife's Ruger 10/22 Carbine, Walnut and Stainless
4. Marlin Model 60 with Bushnell Sportview 6x40 scope. My first gun, now about 25 yrs old.
5. Rossi Model 62 SA, stainless.
We shoot all these on a regular basis. Nothing more fun than bouncing cans around, or shooting shotgun shells off of logs, or just seeing what type of grouping you can get on a piece of paper. Everyone should have a 22 to plink with.
That Hi Standard Pete is a beaut gun ....... worth some bucks too IMO.
My stuff - and JD has seen these I think ......... the Phoenix is cheap and cheerful - but still fun and better with the long barrel. My best for accuracy is the Mauser Obendorfe rifle - and the 22/45 is a good shooter too for pistol. (first two rifle pics are old - somewhat grainy)
This one is my favorite grab and go gun. Springfield M6 Scout Survival Rifle. While it's only single shot it folds to fit in a backpack, it has a .22lr and a .410 over/under setup that weighs almost nothin. Small enough for the kids to love it, useful enough for me to love it. It holds 4 shotgun rounds and 15 .22 rounds in the stock, so I need nothing else if I want to bugout (or stow it in the airplane for survival). I've got a red-dot on mine, one of these days I'm going to try and fabricate a 3 or 4 power detachable zoom for it.
A bit more info on the scout HERE:
These two are my Marlin 880SS. 3x9x?? Scope is kinda cheap but a very accurate gun. Sorry for quality of these.
Finally, my newest toy. A Smith and Wesson 22A. Forgive the target pic, just a little proud of my wifes' 2nd target from the first time she's ever fired a gun, using the 22A. She managed it with little trembling hands. (of course after a little coaching from yours truly)
JD, I have that same exact rifle in .17HMR. Mine is topped with a Tasco 6-24x40 Varmint scope. Very accurate. Will be taking it out in January to West Tx to help my friends clear jackrabbits on their ranch.
I wish the cycling was a little more smooth, and the mags were held in place a little tighter, but other than that I love this thing.
Have fun out on the ranch, my usual targets for the .17 are clay pigeons on edge at 100-150 yards, each pigeon will take about 3 or 4 hits before they bust.:image035: I actually bought mine to help a co-worker with a ground hog problem, never got to solve that one though.
Firestorm is a joy to shoot and runs perfectly on high velocity ammo. It doesn't like standard velocity a bit.
The Mosquito feels and handles great, but I haven't got it to run good yet. I've only tried Remington Golden Bullets so far and I get feed problems. It's only seen one trip to the range, but I plan on getting it out again soon to try various brands of ammo to see what it does like.
I also wished the cycling was a little smoother and the trigger a little lighter, but I have less than 50 rnds thru it. I figure it will smoothen out with more use. I bought mine after I tried my friend's at the ranch, I took out 2 jackrabbits with headshots at 70+ yds, they fell rite there. That was my first experience shooting the .17HMR also, very eye opening.
Will do John but - tho I shoot it rarely it is a nice piece, very traditional, fun with the .22 mag cylinder too - only downside (lazy-butt talkin) - as with any SA and loading gate - slow to load and unload.
The 22/45 is fitted with the Bushnell Trophy red dot - it has four reticles, small dot, large dot, cross and dot in circle. It has a 30mm tube and this is good for the So-Low mounts which I like.
The Muzzle brake deal is a Volquartsen add-on .... does add a smidgeon of weight but not a lot.
The other main change I made was fitting a Volquartsen extractor - it is sharper cut and makes for better reliability - this gun likes Fed Champion ammo best.
I got no pics of my gear, but I can at least brag...
NEF .17HM2 w/ bull barrel and 4x18x50 airgun scope.
Ruger 10/22 with a rebuilt 2.5 lb trigger, moly coated inside the receiver. a green mountain fluted bull barrel with quik disconnects for the BSA red dot scope and airgun scope.
stubby bull barrelled Ruger 45/22 that is too accurate for me to shoot.
I don't have a very good picture of this gun (need to rectify that) but this is the pre runner of many of the "survival guns". The Stevens 22-410. Forefather of the Savage Model 24 and the M6 scout. And is 22 LR over .410 shot gun with early Tenite stock. Circa 1940 or so. The first of these mixed breeds.
A long time favorite - Old manufacture High Standard Supermatic Trophy model on a military frame (.22 LR):
A gift from the wife a while back - AMT AutoMag II (.22 Magnum):
In the long guns, A SS Marlin 882 (.22 Magnum), my grandfathers old Remington Sportmaster, A Marlin Glennfield model 60, A Marlin 394 lever action, and my dad's old Winchester 62A gallery pump.
finally a Remington Mohawk 10C that hasn't seen any use since the sear broke and a Marlin 917v .17 HMR (not really a .22 I know, but pretty much a .22 magnum case... )
Well, I can't find any pics of my marlin (marlin 7000 with a reddot) and my dig camera took a dump, so all I can post is a saved copy of my walther p22 with attached gemtech.
I started drooling just looking at that! I want to buy a P22 myself. Very cheap to shoot, and doesn't look like most .22 handguns. I would love to be able to get silencers myself. But they cost a lot and I don't even know where I would go to get one around here.
I was wondering if anyone else had one of those. Do you have the nice fitted, red velvet lined box? I got mine in about 1965 for a little under $90. I'll have to drag out the camera and get a picture of mine in the box with all the "acessories".
