I found a trick that can be used to aid in sighting a target for beginners. I was trying to figure why my wife seems to aim high, so I got out my Bushnell laser bore sight and placed it in the barrel. I then had her stand about 75 feet away from my shed which has OSB sheathing on the side. I made a mark with a piece of duct tape and had her aim on it. Mind you now at that distance with that color back ground color she could not see the red dot, but I could as I was closer than her. Now as she pulls the trigger I can see whats going on.
So a good aid in teaching may be a bore sight!

Sounds reasonable. Lasers work for this purpose as well...
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.
