    Want a .22 rifle,opinions?

My wife and I shopped Gander Mountain tonight. We are looking for a .22 semi auto rifle.Gander has many Remingtons and Mossbergs under $200.We do not want to spend much more than that since it will just be a target gun to shoot for fun.In the 1970's,I had a .22 pistol that would miss-fire frequently. Was this cheap ammo?Or is that a common problem with the .22? Thanks for your input.

.22 ammo will misfire/feed sometimes. Sometimes it takes trying different brands of ammo to find what works best in your particular gun.
I use a Ruger 10/22 for my rifle. However some of other brands are decent too.

Consider a Marlin 60 too - IIRC these days approx $120 out the door. 15 round tube mag and comes with free grin-factor!!

I have a mossberg plinkster that I bought for around $90 and it has never had any problems. Probably has 2000 rounds through it easy.

We bought our son a Remington 710? - it's one of the Remington's made in the Soviet Union with a gray stock. It shoots very well with no FTF/FTE. The magazines, however, are JUNK. The spring compresses after a few uses and then doesn't feed properly. The Ruger 10/22 is accurate and reliable.

10/22's are always worth the money. Plus there is about every accessory out their imaginable for them, and you can turn one into a real tack driver for not to bad of a price.
I will support gun control when you can guarantee all guns are removed from this planet. That includes military and law enforcement. When you can accomplish that, then I will be the last person to lay down my gun. Then I will carry the weapon that replaces the gun.

i like the ruger 10/22. it just keeps on shooting, no matter what type of ammo.

Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60. Other 22s are just other 22s (besides Anshutz, etc).

Ditto... Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60. The 10/22 high capacity mags make for some great plinking. The Marlin is very reliable and accurate.

Like everything..... .22 ammo has improved greatly over the years. I honestly can't remember the last misfire I had. I wouldn't be concerned about it.

As others have said, you just can't go wrong with a 10/22......or honestly, just about any other rifle from any of the reputable manufacturers.

I have an old Remington nylon 66 that's ugly as sin, but still going strong. Anyone remember those things?!
