    Taurus 24/7 .45 or Witness .45?

I am in my annual confused state and need members' input. I am selling my blue steel Witness .40, mags and ammo and plan to stay with one caliber: .45 (I have a 1911 Gov't). I can replace the pistol and most of the ammo without going out-of-pocket or losing money. I considered a Springfield Commander-sized .45, but wouldn't be able to buy any ammo (without going into family budget) to replace the 700+ rounds that accompany the sale package. My son suggested 9mm for economics and that remains an option, though I prefer the .45. I've narrowed my choice between the Taurus 24/7 Pro and the Witness Poly .45. The former comes with 2 mags and is 12+1 while the latter comes with 1 mag and is 8+1. They are within 1.5 ounces in empty weight. Magazines for both guns retail for around $30-$40 (individually). I've not fired either gun, but have fondled the Taurus and it fits. The Witness shouldn't feel too different than my Witness .40.

I would appreciate the collective wisdom of the members and personal experiences, pro and con of each pistol. Suggestions other than these pistols is also welcome. Thanks!

Well i know nothing about the "witness" but i had a Taurus PT 24/7 Pro & that was a sweet gun mine was a .40 though but it feels good in your hand & i love the rubber grip overlay that Taurus uses & it shot like a champ. I dont think u can go wrong with Taurus, u get alot of gun for the money. Heck i bought it brand new & i think it was $450

I took my CHL course with a 24/7 pro in .45 great gun - very accurate

extremely fast reset , my only problem was in finding a holster - not a problem now...(I did use a JIT Slide)

I owned an EAA witness in 9 - kinda ho - hum for me, but I strongly prefer mine to start with a 4...

12+1 in .45 is hard to beat (cept by maybe 14+1, but that gets expensive)

I know nothing of the Witness but I do have a Taurus 24/7 Pro in 45 cal. The fit and feel of the 24/7 are very nice. So far it's been reliable and is accurate. The Heine sights are OK but take a bit of getting used to. Overall I'd call it a good gun that won't max out your credit card to buy.

I would choose the 24/7, shows you can get it for $355 near here.

That is not a bad price in my book for that pistol and the lifetime warranty. I don't have a 24/7 but have been happy with my Millenium Pro which has some of the same features.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Thanks guys! Taurus it is (unless I find a Commander-sized 1911 at a reasonable price.....). Progress report after I sell my Witness .40!
