    Topping off magazine

I have several Glocks, all in .40 caliber. I have many, many magazines. I only use 6 exclusively for defensive purposes. For my Glock 27 (subcompact) the magazine will hold 9. However, I have never been able to put more than 8 in there. The same for my 23s. The magazine will hold 13, but I have never been able to load more than 12.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there a trick to topping it off? All suggestions are welcome.

When my mags were new I could only load 12. It took a little time, I let them sit with 12 for a few days and finally I got that 13th one in there. Sometimes it's still a challenge, but I carry with 13+1 and that's it, no spare mags. Good luck, I know of no special tricks.

My G-27 Mag has been loaded to 8rds for a long time but its still like death to my fingers to try to get that 9th one in. I carry a G-23 for work and all our mags are at 12rds because it is just to hard for some people to get that last round in.
In talking about this subject with others we all agree that Glock mags are meant to be filled one short, I think that Glock just makes the mag so that they "could be" filled to 9rds, 13rds...etc but really shouldn’t be.

just my feelings as a Glock owner, no really research to back it up.

Most of my mags are fairly new and tough to get the last round in. I used to break my fingers pushing the top round down and putting the last one in. Then I saw someone on this forum recommend the Uplula. It's awesome. Once you get the rythm down, you're limited by how fast you can pick up bullets with your off hand. I found one in my local store for $23.

If you've ever had the mags apart and notice the design of the followers, I think that the follower actually has to tip downward at the front to get that last round in. I'm thinking that the polymer may actually need to flex a bit on #9. Polymer is tough stuff.

I don't own a GLOCK (no trouble loading my Sig mags) but I thought GLOCK pistol sets came with a speed loader?

Mine came with a speed loader. It takes a bit to get the rhythem down, but yo can load up a mag quick with it. That last round is a pain without some kind of load assistance device.

I want one of them uplula jobbies!

I didn't see one for the M14. I wish they had one. I have seen them elsewhere, but not on that site.
