    Start the Clock **UPDATED**

So I was in the market for a 3 inch 1911 for quite some time. Come Christmas time, I got a Para Ord. Slim-Hawg (Black) from my parents (they love me). I have shot less than 250 rounds through it during 2 different abbreviated range sessions. The day after my 2nd range session I was doing my cleaning and inspection when I noticed both of the grips had begun to crack vertically.

Well today I finally got on the phone with Para. According to the Customer Service Rep they will be ground shipped via UPS tomorrow. Let's start the clock now.......

I should have read a little more about Para here before I put that gun on the list of guns I wanted. My wife gave the list to my parents and that's how I ended up with it.

    TO BE CONTINUED!

    Cracked grips

Are these grip panels made of wood? It is pretty unusual for them to crack, especially both panels at once. Do you suppose the screws were torqued down too hard?

Maybe you were never meant to have the stock grips. I'd get some aftermarket ones and forget about it... JMO

This feedback, plus that of another member with protracted service delays, plus a $30 price increase at Bud's (in 2 days) on one I've been eyeballing means I'm not getting a Para as my 2nd 1911. I'll probably stick with Taurus unless another one comes by within my price range. Thanks for the post!

If I had to guess you would be exactly right. Cracked at the screws and it looks like they were over torqued. Funny thing, the screws were never touched. Won't touch them until the replacements show up.

The gun is a piece of junk. Bring it to work tomorrow and I will give you $50 for it, even with cracked grips; I know I'm too generous, but what are friends for?

Absolute junk. Send PM and I'll drive down to take it off your hands for gas cost. My guess is the grip screws were over torqued to start with No big deal since they are replaceing them.

That's $100. I will add an xtra $50 on top of that. Just joking, the other half would beat me with it if I bring another homeless gun into our house.
