Its official, I have to many...

A week or so ago, someone mentioned they thought I had to many guns because I wasnt in any hurry to get down the the shop to pick up a new 870 I had ordered. It had been in for almost 2 weeks before I went and got it.
I didnt think much of it, until I went to move some stuff around in my long gun safe a last night. I keep this safe in my workshop. I noticed 7 cardboard factory long gun boxes sitting on top of my ammo shelf next to the safe. I had assumed those boxes were empty...

Nope. All but one had guns in them. Now I have to make a lot more room in the safe than I thought. One of them I didnt even remember buying until I looked at the sales slip on order to file it away.
I'm going to start selling some off.

whooo whooo this has nothing to do with need.....This has to do with want!!!! hehehehehehehe..........I sold a Steyr M9 to a lawyer one time who collected 9mm's, he had over 100 9mms. When I first showed it to him he was intrigued and said wow thats the coolest gun he had ever seen (because he had never seen one before). He got home started doing inventory realized he had actually had 3 of them NIB never been touched.

Sixto, you just need to get rid of some of that unwanted clutter that just complicates things. I'll be by this weekend to haul off those (full) boxes so you don't have to fool with clearing all that space in the safe. I'm always ready to help out . . .

It's probably like me and bookshelves. I fill one up and buy another. The new one looks stupid mostly empty so I buy more books. Then I need another bookshelf. Vicious.

I dont have any more room in my house. I hate clutter, so I refuse to have a safe in any of the main living areas of my home. They all stay in the basement. My workshop is full, and I dont want to take over other areas of the house. My wife would kick me out, and I hate having stuff scattered all over.

And, a lot of stuff I just dont need or want anymore, now that I know what I have. I'm going to sell some stuff here and on gunbroker, proceeds will probably go to buy one of those jumbo safes.

No... I dont. That gun has been elusive... when I find one at a good price, I'm outta money. When I have the money, I cant find one at a good price.

Its not really a problem, but it did make me take a step back and think long and hard about my collection and where its going.
Its a good time to start thinning it out, and buying some stuff I need or rather have. I've also noticed some duplicates that I really dont need, like the Valmet I just posted for sale today.

The scary part is, I havent touched the handguns yet. I want to thin out the entire collection. I dont need duplicates anymore, I've stopped teaching. I'm even thinking about just keeping basics, and selling off the rest.

I wouldn't even think about selling a gun because of lack of room. You can always get rid of furniture, applicances, clothing, food, etc. With those space-wasters gone you'll have plenty of room.

I'm moving and have managed to hang tough with the gun collection but am amazed at the "stuff" that I've accumulated. Parts, ammo, and components.

I'm also like Cupcake in that my wife and I both love books and can never balance out the volumes to shelving ratio. He really hit the nail on the head.
