    Hi-cap 9mm 1911

I'm curious if anyone knows of a '1911 based' gun that is, in order of preferences:

    • Hi-cap -- 16+ or at least 12+
    • 9mm, .40S&W, .45 acp
    • 4.25" barrel, 5" barrel, shorter than 4.25" barrel
    • Single action only
    • Carry friendly finish
    • Adjustable combat night sights
    • Bobtailed

...or is there a good reason that this is the only type of 1911 I can't find?

    Para Ordnance

Para Ordnance, a Canadian company, has long offered some of their 1911 models in a wide grip, double stack high capacity design. Go to this page on their website and look at the model descriptions:

Here is a .40 caliber gun with 16+1 capacity:

Baer makes one with 18 + 1 with .40 cal. It's based on a Caspian frame and called the Baer H.C. .40. No bobtail though.

    STI Tactical 4.15

    STI International, Inc. (Complete Guns->Tactical)

They are nice, but honestly, a BHP is a more reasonable answer to the question, unless you just want to spend the $$ on novelty. I believe you may be able to order a Sig 9mm with SA, but perhaps I'm being delusional.

Edit to add: the Bobtail is a single-stack option only, though if you simply had to spend about $300 extra, a smith could probably make one on a double stack steel frame.

...or is there a good reason that this is the only type of 1911 I can't find?
Not being a smart-butt, but yes. The reason is that BHP, CZ-75 and their clones have addressed those needs as efficiently as possible- they are actually improved versions of the 1911...

    Thanks guys!

pogo2: I had seen the Para before and was hoping it wasn't the only one... cus it's big and ugly -- funnel, trigger, 2-tone slide, FO front sight...

Supertac 45: I found a picture of the H.C. 40 from the SHOT show. 18+1 .40S&W? Nice, but not exactly what I was thinking of.

Rob72: Thanks for pointing me to STI -- their 3.9" 15+1 VIP is the closest to what I was hoping for. Actually, I thought everybody would say "Ever heard of a BHP?"

    Still not perfect, but...

Anything that holds 16+ rounds of .40+ is going to be big. Ugly is in the eye of the beholder. If you don't like it, get it in stainless, or change the grips etc...
