    non US citizen purchasing firearm?

    does anyone know if a non-US citizen can purchase a pistol in MI?

    I think they can, as long as they have permanent resident status.

    I know for a fact that a permanent resident can...outside of that status, I suggest you check with your local FFL (and have them call the ATF to check, as the local FFL likely has no idea).

    This is right, your local FFL can refuse to sell if he refuses or if your state or locality requires a permit to purchase then they may refuse to issue the permit.

    But in most states they can.

    alrighty thats what i thought.
    of course easy enough to find out- try to get a purchase permit. if they say no, who cares.
    but the person who was wondering just didnt want to waste their time if they knew they couldnt get one

    Correct. There is even a box on the batf form for your resident alien number.

    Wife's a perm res and owns several guns.

    I think there are a few states that deny them ability. Not the Feds though.

    remember, the Bill of Rights is recognition of basic rights to ALL men (and ladies) not just Americans.

    Avoid your local FFL altogether and give a call to the county sheriff. They are the one's who would have to issue the permit, so they would know. Also the State Police website has a good deal about michigan firearm laws. I haven't checked it in a while, but you might find the answer there too.
    When the messenger arrives and says 'Don't shoot the messenger,' it's a good idea to be prepared to shoot the messenger, just in case.
