    Ugh, range rant

So I bought a new SA XD 9 service model (after I just had gotten used to my G 17) and I shot horribly with it. I shot excellent with the .45 version a few months back, but all my shots were low right (i'm a lefty and i hear low and left is normal at first for a righty) but sometimes as much as 5-6" at 5-10yards! For better or worse my buddy was nailing bulls eyes from 5-25 yards.

After 175 rounds through it, despite being a little bit frustrated (i'll get it eventually), I think the XD is a great gun.

If you're having the same problems with two different guns/platforms, it's time to admit it's operator error. You need to get yourself to some professional training. Throwing hundreds of dollars downrange and getting the same results is a waste of time and money, plus you're probably reinforcing whatever bad habit you have.

I would add a lot of dry firing into the mix, and add a couple snaps to your mag....or have your friend do it, when you are at the range. You will see the flinch. Good Luck

    Glock 19/FEG/FM HiPowers/Keltec P32 for me. When I can't use my 870,N98 or Marlin .30-30 of course...

My brother has the same problem with his XD40. He ended up busting my target stand.

I can laugh about it now.

Most everyone I know who bought an XD has the same problem - low and right. It takes professional coaching and a lot of dry firing to correct the problem.

Anticipating recoil/flinching is very common. It takes patience and practice to overcome....

I'll be attending Gunsite in the fall, so that'll be good.

I'm, a police range instructor, also a lefty with large hands to boot. If I place too much of my trigger finger into the guard and over the trigger I will pull my shots low and right. A right hander will pull low and left under the same circomstances. I added a rubber grip sleave to my Glock 23 and it helped.
