    Educate Me - Slide lockback

Try as I might I cannot figure it out on my own. How does my slide automatically lockback when the magazine is empty on my SA XD?

I've been able to examine and figure out just about everything that the weapon does, but I cannot figure how this works. Educate me please.

There is a little tab that protrudes from the slide lock that engages the magazine follower when the magazine is empty. On most pistols, it is on the front left corner of the magazine well, near the top.

Yeah I see that tab, but it just sits right in the notch cut out on the magazine. I know it must be responsible, but I cannot figure out the mechanics of it. Driving me nuts!

Now I got it. The base plate on the magazine pushes up that tab.

If you want to see it in action, insert a blank magazine, lock the slide back, and then while holding the slide open, work the slide lock up and down with your thumb while watching the mag follower, and you'll see it move up and down.

Is this hard to understand? Then why does it get unintelligible to some people when 5 little words are changed?

Actually it is the follower in the mag that engages the slide lock. The base plate holds the spring and follower in the mag body at the bottom of the mag.
