saw one sell in a local shop for 450 last week

IIRC I got mine last year for 350...

some of the early ones were made of almost all surplus parts

in contrast that shop had (still has two originals for 650 each - not sure on mfgs)

If it is an early one made in NJ before Universal bought them, then it is worth around $400-$500

The original Plainfield's were built with a Plainfield reciever and Gov' surplus parts (sometimes even surplus barrels) and can us surplus parts.

The Universals are not always interchangable with Gov' M1 carbines.

Take it with you to your next local gun show, you will have offers from both dealers and plain ole folks and this should give you a good idea of value.
