    I was wicked -

But not as wicked as Bruce and Class3NH LOL!

After getting stuff done early this morning in Johnstown, decided to try and meet my son for lunch at 12. Had about an hour spare so thought a browse at Gander Mtn was worth a go.

Oh my - all the many goodies - resisted most (with difficulty) but - saw a minty T/C barrel for 45LC/.410, which I had thought of getting before. Wasn't quite a bargain but seeing as they sell for approx $200, this at $130 seemed worth a shot (pun there ).

Gives me three bbl's now, the others being the .223 and .44mag. Got a bag of 50 45LC cases too as was short on those.

Could have been worse - but could have been better if I'd never gone in there - as far as expenditure went! I am so weak willed

Haha - ''minor'' Bud, relative to some purchases true - of course this was not really that much less than Class3's latest snub deal - so he got a whole gun!

Oh well - now gotta go load some 45LC soon - put the darned thing to good use

Do you load that cal? Ages since I did and not sure yet what recipe to use - just for shall we say +P but not much hotter.

The only way it would be a wicked thing is if my wife found out that I spent that much on another gun.

Shhhhhhhhhh nobody tell her what they cost.

I always say that I traded something for it, that way she thinks I didn't spend any money

I've had a couple of 45/.410 barrels over the years for my TC.

I traded the last one I had for a .223 in stainless. While they are fun for awhile, ecspecially with the .410 shells, I've neer seen one or even heard of one that was very accurate with the .45 long colts. There just seems to be too much for the bullet to "jump" before it hits the rifling.
It'll be OK for casual plinking, but it dosent look that great on paper.

I did use the 410 to take a few limits of squirrles over the years and cottontails didnt have a chance. It seems that most people I know that own several barrels for the TC have toyed around with the 410/45 barrel for awhile before they finally traded it off for something else.

Let us know how it shoots...

HG - yes had heard the same, quite true. I am not going to expect stellar grouping for the reason you mention, and do like the .410 aspect particularly.

I am wondering, despite having got some extra 45 brass - could well be I can use 45LC loads in the .454 cases, and so gain a bit of extra ''reach'' for bullet - bit less jump. Plus careful choice of bullet also regarding style.

We'll see - it'll be a while I expect before getting some loading done but will try and report back eventually.

Just get a 45-70 barrel and a 22 hornet barrel. They were my tow favorite of all the barrels I owned. BTW I did shoot a 460 Weatherby in an unbraked 14" Encore. WOW, what a kick. (I just had to say it)

Scott F - hey, welcome aboard

I had considered that barrel - still do really but, hard to justify as I have a BFR in 45-70 and love it!! Not sure about the Hornet cos it'd mean more dies!

I do like the .223 a lot and would like a 30-30 next.

Thanks. I have been lurking for a while and learning.

There are so many to choose from. I have had a 223 and a 7 TCU. I would like a 300 Whisper and then get a suppresses barrel but that is a long range goal. First I NEED a Kimber gold Combat and a Dillen press to keep it fed.

If you like TC's look at http://tcbunch.com/ A lot of great TC shooters with years of experience and willing to help.

I have a .45/.410 barrel for my G2 Contender. It was an impulse buy for me. I wouldn't mind getting rid of it. I love my .17HMR, and .30-30 barrels. Which are the 2 only other barrels I have.
When I shot the ..45 Long Colt from a bench. It got awful groups. I really don't remember the size. The .410 pattern wasn't anything to brag about either.
I went squirrel hunting a few times, but never could get a good shot in. When I did the #8 shot was a crap-shot. Considering that the foliage was thick.
It was neat for shooting hand tossed disk.

I woldnt mind geting the .223, and a good match .22lr barrel.
