Congratulations! IT'S A.......

IT'S A BELGIAN!
If you thought I was going to say boy or girl, you're in the wrong thread.
This is almost as good though.
After a few years of searching, I've finally found a reasonably priced, Belgian Browning Take-down .22 Auto.
No pics yet, this one is going on lay-away.
I've found a few non-Belgians in the $250-$400 range, and the newly released models anywhere from $500 to 1K and up pending on which grade of Browning you want.
The last I saw was in decent shape, if you consider a missing rear sight and weaver rail tapped to the bbl in decent shape.
This one is costing $375 and is in good enough shape to be a deal and in bad enough shape that once "Lump" is of age, he/she can learn to shoot on the Take-down .22 just like daddy did.
I there is a little rust on the receiver and the stock has some nicks and scrapes, but I think some fine steel wool will do the trick nicely and I may try to find some replacement furniture from E-Gunparts, but they are currently sold out, but MGW does have them in stock it seems, I guess we'll have to see how the rifle cleans up before I restock it.
For those that aren't familiar with the rifle, this is what it looks like,

Now I need to find me one of those cases to go along with it too.
It's probably without a doubt one of the finest .22s I've ever shot, it may not be as "cool" as a 10/22 with Krinker kit, or a 30rd mag, but this thing is about as svelte as it gets, and shoots like a dream.

It was my "first love" of the gun world way back about 23 years ago. Oh I loved making those empty soup cans dance.

Who do you think called me once it hit the store?
Someone brought into the shop she works at and she called me almost immediately to ask me if that was what I've been looking for, lucky for me I just pointed one out to her during our trip to the Cody Firearms Museum.
Do I have the greatest wife or what?

LOL.. Yeah... It really is all my fault. While we were at the Cody Firearms Museum all I heard about for the next three days was this stinken Browning Belgium and how it was the first gun he ever shot and blah.. blah.. blah...lol
He even went to a couple more gun shops in the area to see if they had any.. nada.
Then, lo and behold, a guy walks into the shop with one this morning. My memory wasn't serving me as well as I had hoped (pregnant brain and all) and I couldn't EXACTLY remember if that was the particular gun he was whining over or not. If I had KNOWN I would have just secretly bought it for him for Father's Day or something (after all, this IS going to be his first Father's Day. What better of a gift than the little .22 he learned to shoot on when he was a boy!).
Anyway, I called him to confirm, text messaged him the price and he was over in less than an hour to look at it.
He looked like a kid at Christmas and I knew it would just be mean of me to tell him he couldn't buy it. It would also torture me not to tell him about it.. So, we are welcoming into our family a little Belgium Take-Down .22.
I shall call him Spot.

I think you need one of the new special editions, stainless steel with an octagonal barrel and black and gray laminate furniture.

Good deal! I love mine, since I'm left-handed & all my other semi-auto rim-fires eject into my face, the Browning ejecting downward is GREAT!

I have two of them.
A maruko from Japan and a Belgian made 22 take-down. Got the Maruko [ sp? ] for under 300 and the Belgian for 350. Both are in great shape, the Belgian perhaps as high as 95%, the other is my go to when I shoot baseballs and golf balls practicing the ariel skills.
Damned nice guns. JMusic [ a member here ] introduced me to this model a year ago, and he recently came out for some ariel fun with his a few months ago.
He told me they were the cats meow for ariel work, and he was right.
Congrats on the pickup JD, and good heads up on the 22 takedown for him Limatunes

It would seem I'm not the only one who plays golf that way........
I have a friend who keeps me supplied with golf balls to use for the same thing!!!

One of the most beautiful firearms ever made. I remember admiring them at the Sears store as a kid. Never owned one, but have shot them and would love to have one.
Cheers,
Rod
