You are not being charged to register, you are being charged to have them notorized

Your purchase permit is supposed to be free. And your instructor is correct they are working on a lot of changes to the registration laws.

No it does not. Your individaul department may charge a notary fee.

Here in Mecosta County they do not charge for purchase permits or notorizing your "safety inspection"

Here in Calhoun county they (at least use to) charge when you picked up the "Safety inspection form" AKA Green Card, purchase permit, but since I have my Mi CPL I have not had to pay the fee for their "notary services"

When Mom passed a couple of years back and I went to transfer dad's (he passed a number of years back) to me, the person at the window made a comment about how much I had saved because I had my CPL, so that makes it sound more like a fee for the card and not the Notarization.

Registration? Safety check? What is that? I'm not about to allow registration of my firearms into my state

So as a citizen living in a free state with a few or more hand guns, does this mean if I where to move to MI I would have to get all my hand guns "safety inspected" ? It seems the answer would be yes. Or is something they make you do when or just after you purchase a hand gun? Hmmmm cross MI off of my possible move to locations.

Every gun sale requires registration and cost you money!

When you fill out the required BATFE paper work, there is then a record of your name and the make and serial number of your gun. The store where you bought that gun has to pay the clerk for his time spent on this sleazy, backdoor registration process, and pay to keep those records for years and years. That cost is passed along to you, the buyer, hidden in the purchase price.

Ya MI sucks for a lot of this stuff. One bonus is that we have the largest number of states with reciprocity. :)

We did how do you think we got our Shall issue law, reciprocity with more states than any other issue state, and a bill in the works to do away with the so called safety inspection.
This nonsense was started a very long time ago as a racist method to stop blacks from being able to buy a hand gun.

You got to pay to REGISTER a handgun that they require registered?

You people need to change the laws(and the people that make them) up there and get in line with the rest of the free states where there is no registration.
Not sure I see your point. You are required to have a driver's license, which you must pay for. You are required to have your car licensed, which you must pay for. Most areas require a business license, which must be paid for. If you practice one of many, many regulated professions which require a state license, you must pay for that too.

So it only makes sense that if you live in a state that has handgun registration you are going to have to pay for it.

Missouri doesn't require handgun registration and last year we got rid of the need to obtain a, "permit to acquire" from your local sheriff. All that is required to purchase a handgun is to walk into your favorite gun dealer, pick out the one you want, fill out the paper work, have the fed background check run, give them your money and take you gun home.
