It seems the answer would be yes. Or is something they make you do when or just after you purchase a hand gun? Hmmmm cross MI off of my possible move to locations.

Yes you would have 10 days to register, there is a Bill in the house to repeal this law.

It is called an inspection certificate and not a registration. Has been around for a long time, (I have one from my grandfather from 1927) Bay county does not charge a fee for this. There is proposed legislation in Lansing to eliminated this. Contact your state legislators and let them know how you feel!!! Do it now!!

The single thing that I don't miss about PA is registering my handgun sales with the State Police.

You don't need a notary for the safety inspection, just for the purchase permit. If you have a CPL you don't need the purchase permit.

My local LE doesn't charge any notary fees and openly criticizes the sheriff's department that does. It's like Super Troopers. The village PD and sheriff department hate each other.

Talking Maybe not too much longer...

Senate Committee Votes to eliminate 'Safety Inspection' Requirement
Legislative Update By David Felbeck, MCRGO's Legislative Analyst

On June 10th the Senate Judiciary Committee voted unanimously to recommend the passage of SB 370 and SB 371. These bills, in conjunction with HB 4490 and HB 4491, which have already been passed by the House, will eliminate the requirement that any pistol purchaser must have the pistol "safety inspected" by the local police within ten days of purchase.

SB 370 was sponsored by Senator Richardville, and SB 371 by Senator Cropsey. About twelve people, excluding the Committee and staff, were present. Following an explanation of the bills by a representative of Senator Richardville, MCRGO's legislative analyst briefly described the difficulties under present law faced by a pistol purchaser and made a plea not only for passage of the current bills but for complete elimination of the pistol purchase permit as well. No one else testified, either for or against these bills.

When these bills and the companion bills are passed by both houses, and the governor signs them, prospective purchasers of pistols will still have to obtain purchase permits from their local law enforcement office. CPL licensees, as is currently the case, will not be required to obtain purchase permits.

Committee members supporting both bills were Senators Kuipers (chairman), Cropsey, Whitmer, Clarke, and Pruse. Senators Sanborn and Patterson were not present.

The bills now go to the full Senate for action.

Nope, no registration or fees here in Texas. If you have you CHL, they don't even have to do a background check. Just fill out 4473 sign it and out the door you go.

We do pay for auto registration, and drivers license, but not for a business license, at least not where I live.

Another great reason to live in Texas.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

In some States sale between private citizens are not recorded, weapons give as gifts are not recorded, weapons passed on through wills are not recorded, weapons brought into the State when you move into the State are not recorded, etc.

That is there does not have to be a complete record of all the guns you own.

You can own a number of guns that can't be tracked to you by just looking it up on a computer. True with some detective work (assuming all the players in the chain are still alive) LOEs can track a gun's history, once they get their hands on it.

But that is far different that having to register every gun you own.

I've never been charged a fee for my safety inspections. Hopefully we can get rid of this silly inspection/registration process.
