Just got back from a trip through some southern states.

Missed being able to access this site for two weeks. I had an interesting thing happen one morning while checking out of our hotel in Jacksonville FL. The hotel was in an area where there were several hotels, all nice, and the neighborhood looked nice too. I asked the clerk if there was someplace where I could buy a coffee to go for our trip. She gave me directions to a Starbucks that she said was close. She then said, "I would tell you to walk but it's not very safe around here". Just goes to show you that you can't always go by the general appearance of the neighborhood. I am glad I have a FL non-resident permit and was armed throughout most of our trip. I couldn't pack in The People's Republic Of Illinois nor in SC. Other than that I was packing all the time.

Geographically speaking, or just anything south of home is a "southern state"?

    Hope you enjoyed FL.
We live about 1.5 hours away, and have gone there for some shows. Jax is one of those places that I take 'extra mags'.
Glad your stay was uneventful in terms of self-defense...

Glad you survived Ill-annoy and SC unarmed! I agree with Retsupt here; there are just some places where you bring extra mags... and guns. Apparently Jax is one of them; Florida City is definitely another.

We went through TN, KT, NC where my son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters live, SC, GA, and FL. Some beautiful country down there and a lot of interesting history.

Sorry SC is such a gun unfriendly state to non-res. We have some real jerks as legislators here.

We just this past legislative session had a chance to pass a state recognition bill instead of reciprocity. One senator bragged how he single handedly held up the bill.

There are worse states to drive through as a non-res. At least we can carry a loaded gun in the console or glovebox in SC.
