Narrowed it down a bit!
Every year for the past couple years I've spent part of my Permanent Fund Dividend on a new firearm (I love Alaska!). This year will be no exception, especially with an extra 1,200 as the so called "energy rebate." The PFD check is supposed to be as much as 2,000 dollars, so that brings the total to 3,200 dollars.
I still can't decide what to buy though. I just bought the Glock 17 that was on my list, so that's off. I'm really considering the Glock 21SF, but would also like to get an EBR before they're no longer available. At most I'm looking to spend 1,500 of it, and plan to save the rest for other things. Here are the top five guns on my list...
AR-15 carbine (Bushmaster, RRA, or DPMS)
Ruger GP100 4"
Springfield 1911A1 Black SS
Glock 21SF
Yugo AK-47 Underfolder
This will definitely be my last gun purchase of 2008, so I want to make sure I am happy with what I decide to buy. So far the AR-15 and G21SF are the top two, so I might just get both.
So many good choices, darn it!

We lived in AK for 7 years...PDF checks varied from $400-$1,000...gotta' love it...beats a state income tax.
With your PDF and list, I'd go the BushMaster AR-15 route...OMO.
Have fun shopping.
Stay armed...in AK you don't need a permit...stay safe!

I'd agree with that statement. Be sure to have enough left over for lots of mags and a ton of ammo!

With the uncertainties of this fall's election, I think the AR-15 would have to be a "must buy". If you've got money left over to spend after purchasing an AR, then pick up something additional on your list. Personally, I'm partial to the DPMS guns.

It didn't for us...we were 1300 miles out into the Aleutian Islands on a military base...our expenses were very reasonable, and completely tax deductable.

Thanks guys for the feedback, I think I'll go ahead and purchase the AR and G21SF. Are there any brands I should stay away from as far as the AR rifles go, or are they all pretty much the same?
