Shooting Vicitim at Wendy's Shooting Going to The Range With Me

Awhile back I reported that I had dinner with a couple, both of whom had been shot at the shooting that took place at Wendys in West Palm Beach.

I indiciated in that post that I had asked the husband if he thought that he could have prevented he and his wife and others from being shot if he had been lawfully armed, and that he responded yes while the shooter hesitated when changing mags.

Well, we had dinner again with that couple Saturday, and I asked him, whether, in view of his experience, he was planning on getting a CCW and carrying a gun. He said that although he had shot when he was younger, it had never occured to him to do so. He asked what the process was in Florida to get a license. I told him it was very easy, that I practice at a local range each month, that they rent guns and I would be happy to take him along next time I went. he said that he was very interested, so I am hopeful that I have, perhaps, made a new convert to the sheepdog clan.

    Great job, Ron!

And judging from your style, handled sensitively as well.

It is not at all surprising that one who has been shot by a criminal would express interest in learning to shoot and arming himself. If he HADN'T been interested we'd all probably question his intelligence! However, good for you, taking the initiative and getting him started.

You would hope that would be the case, but sometimes people are so traumatised by being shot or being shot at they don't want anything to do with guns, even the thought of using them for self defense is beyond their coping skills

It would be good to have one more legally armed citizen here in West Palm Beach. Good job.

Great to hear! When I finish a carry class here in MN I tell my students that I'm just doing my part to put more guns on the streets. Legal ones that is!

Hope that they follow through and get their permits, training, and a dependable firearm(s).

Nice of you to offer the help...some people just need a nudge.
