Sig P226 or P229...you Sig Experts!!!

I held 1 in my hand today, what a mistake. Now I need one Question is, which one? They looked the same to me except 1 was a bit longer. The salesman was not much help. Plus they were priced at 799. Is that a ripoff price? I will probably pick one up this weekend. Also I have never had a tac light on a pistol, these pistols had acc. rails and I want a good light to put on it. This will be my new Home protection gun!!! Thanks

I carried the 226 in 9MM as my duty gun for several years and it performed well but I would have personaly taken the 229 in 357 Sig if I had the choice as it is more compact, better balistic performance and is easier to tote. Having said that I prefer the G22 in 40 S&W I carry now for the lower bore axis, grip ergonomics and consistant trigger that make me a better shooter at speed.

    I'm Getti'n One!!!

I have done some research, and I cannot find anything negative with the Sig line of pistols. Research points towards the P226, but I will have to hold all they have and see how they feel. I definately want a double stack magazine, I already have a CC pistol, this one will be my range and Bedroom gun. So I am getting one this weekend. Heck, if they are good enough for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, it is good enough for me!!!!!!!!

How about some suggestions on a durable Tac light to mount on my new Sig. Never had 1 before.

No tac light suggestions as, tho I could fit one - not my bag! I have just the hand held E1e.

My choice of the 226 ST has not disappointed me at all. I have said more than once I actually relish large and heavy - meaning normal full size is fine. I don't mind some loss of weight like with a 228 for example, or the 220 if going .45 cal.

My short term ''problem'' with my 226 was resolved and not actually serious in type - just effect - and much was down to me being slow to ID the trouble. Forget thread link now, anyways, that's history.

Once I have CT's fitted to my new aquisition of 228, that may well be carry when I want to save a little bit of weight.

Generally, I'd choose large because of controllability - if it conceals it's carried

I have both a 226 and a 229. The 229 is heavier but it's more accurate than my 226. I've carried them both and the 226 was more comfortable in that role.
$799 is really high in my area. Have you thought about buying one from an online dealer and having it shipped to your FFL? Might save you some money.

Great guns, accurate, durable; the P229 in .40 S&W is my duty gun. The only real negative thing about the P229 is the weight....it's heavy fully loaded.

I prefer the 226, but then again, I own six now. :)

The 228/229 is too short for my extremely large hands. The 226 fits me like a 228/229 fits people with normally large hands - it's a compact gun for my use.

In a home defense type gun, though, go for size. It'll be easier to shoot a 226 accurately due to increased sight radius.

Ive got several and I like them all.

Have you thought about the 226 in .357 Sig ?

For a "house" gun, I'd go with the 226 ,ecpecially if you have big hands.

I don't think you can lose either way. If you can, fire both and see which you like most. I have a 226 and a 239 and hope to get a 229 in 357SIG some time next year.

    Hivoltage,

Sounds like you're already sold on a great gun (226 or 229), but it might be of interest to know that Sig and H&K both got multi-year, multi-million dollar contracts as a result of their stellar performance in the ICE tests not long ago.

Sigs are great guns. You might want to take a look at the DAK (Sig) trigger system - it is sweeeet!

Well....I made the trip to the gun store this morning and brought home the P229. Now I need to get a decent holster for it.

One question though, having not fired it yet....does the hammer ever rest on the firing pin? It appears to bounce off the pin whan I dry fire it and hang about midway between shots with an empty magazine!!! Thanks
