    Anyone shipped a gun recently?

I know everything is getting more expensive but I just sold my first gun on Gunbroker, I charged $35 for shipping, figuring it would cost me another $20 or so out of pocket. I just Fedex'd the handgun from Nevada to New Hampshire and it cost $120.18 That's insane!

That sounds really high even for overnight

I agree. The last one I shipped was 41 and change.

That does seem outrageous. I just checked UPS rates on a 5 pound package from Nevada to New Hampshire:

    2nd Day: $40.55
    3rd Day: $29.05
    Overnight: $70.41

The FedEx rates on their website were similar, unless you chose the most expensive priority overnight. If not, you may wish to call and complain to the company.

I am going to call tomorrow. My receipt shows they used Fedex priority overnight I was told that is the only way I could ship. I'll complain but i think this may end up being an expensive lesson, I should have done my homework.

They may have an account and get special pricing. UPS tends to be cheaper but the best price I found is to have a buddy with an FFL and have him ship the package.

Find an FFL that will mail it for you.

Hi Dolphin- Yes, do check with FedEx. As far as I understand it, handguns need to be shipped either overnight or 2nd day. Overnight shipping has levels of priority... early morning, late morning, or afternoon deliveries. Any one of those should have been acceptable, and if they told you to choose the most expensive one, I think they might have been doing you a disservice.

As mentioned above, an FFL usually has a UPS or FedEx account, and can get less expensive rates. Might want to go that way next time.

Let us know how it turns out!

You can chose UPS's Next day air saver and meet their handgun requirements just fine. Last one I shipped (was like 6 months back though) was $65 from SC to Washington State. And one about same time from SC to TN was $35

OK, I just got off the phone with a Fedex supervisor at their 800 # and he said I was not overcharged that a handgun must go "Priority Overnight" with no other options.

An FFL can ship using USPS, and is not required to ship overnight, which should cost them less than $15. Last time I shipped a pistol, my FFL charged me $25 for the service, which included shipping and insurance, and their time to send it off. Find an FFL to ship it for you using USPS.

Dealing with FedEx and UPS policies for shipping a handgun is ridiculous, in my opinion.

Thanks, I'm definitely through with Fedex!

As mentioned before, I feel they are misleading you. Any overnight option is acceptable. I would ask for a supervisor and complain louder!

    Cool

I've never paid more than $60.00 with Fedex to ship a handgun overnight and that included insurance. Maybe they boosted prices up 50-80% to cover gas costs.
