Who's built a DYI 1911?
I'm intrigued by the idea, but I feel certainly up to the challenge. To give you a short background, I have machinist experience, have studied metalurgy and physics, I own precision measuring instruments, and like to think I practice common sense.
I'm NOT approaching a build for carry purposes, but as a way to get involved in pistolsmithing. And let's face it... custom 1911's don't grow on trees

LOL i haven't really built one , but i sure nuff unbuilt a couple of nice factory ones back when i first got a dremil . If you decide to go foreward let me know i should have all the blueprints , helpfull hints , ect mostly in pdf form that would take you from a raw casting (0% frame ) if needed . I have considered it but with the amount of time i have nowadays it would be a long term project , i cant even find the time to fabricate small stuff nowadays , neither the lathe nor minimill have been fired up in over 60 days lol .
Make sure you get full value out of today , Do something worthwhile, because what you do today will cost you one day off the rest of your life .

All you need is kuhnhaussen's 1991 book. There are certainly more/newer books out there that you can buy, but I found more than enough info in that one book.
Also get a Brownell's catalog if you don't already have one...
Oh, and if you decide to try the spray-on finish that you bake in the oven... buy your wife something nice first...
