Thinking of purchasing a new gun

I am really set on buying a new range gun and I have narrowed I down to a Glock 17. This will only be for the range as I have a 1911 for carry. I just think that it will be cheaper to shoot because it is a 9mm and I have shot a few before.

Just wondering if anybody would have any reasons to not buy one. The shop that I would get it from told me $499 out the door and after searching for awhile, I think that it is a pretty reasonable price. Any feedback will be appreciated.

I have a glock 17 ,it's my carry gun. It's good all around pistol that does everything well. It's easy to take care off compared to a 1911 and most
people start with one end up with several. Most guys who buy springfield xd
is because of grip angle. Both pistols are very close and dependable and have a very vocal ,loyal following.I can tell you there's no fiddling with a glock for 500 rounds like a 1911 to make sure it's working right and dependable. It's good too go right out of the box !

I'd get a CZ P-01 instead. I'm not a fan of Glock or anything else that is not either SA or DA/SA.

Another question that I have is should I look for a specific generation on these guns? When I look on gunbroker I see some that are generation 1, 2, 3 and was wondering if there is much of a difference between them or if there are certain problems with one or another.

I would look at a CZ-75 also. If it is just going to ge a range gun Glock does make a target model with a 6" barrel and adjustable sights I don't know the model number off hand, but you can go to the Glock websight or wait and I am sure some here knows.

Another vote on the Glock 17. I personally am a fan of Glock, and tend to be bias. Like Stetson said, "They work right out of the box". Guaranteed.

I'm ALWAYS thinking of purchasing a new gun.

For $500, it should be a gen 3 , new in box.

Gen 3 - finger grooves on the front strap, thumb depression on the grip, rail on the dustcover
Gen 2- no fingergrooves, no rail, rectangular checkering on the frontstrap
Gen 1- no fingergrooves, no rail, pebble type finish on the frontstrap.
