Man shoots self in leg while cleaning gun
    DEMOCRAT STAFF REPORT • August 27, 2008

TALLAHASSEE - William Gilliard, 23, was cleaning his .45-caliber Glock early this morning when it discharged and shot him in the leg, according to David McCranie, spokesman for the Tallahassee Police Department.

The incident happened around 1:45 a.m., and TPD and EMS responded. Gilliard was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover, according to McCranie.

"We emphasize that everyone take a gun-safety course and always follow proper gun safety," McCranie said. "Treat every gun as if it is loaded, and when cleaning a gun, make sure it's not loaded."

Ok, I have to ask, how many more times will people use the excuse that they were cleaning their gun when it went off? By my definition you can't be cleaning your gun and shoot yourself because it has to have an empty chamber to rod the barrrel and it has to be broken apart to clean the darn thing.

And how many times will the police/press allow that to be used as an excuse? They just need to wack the person in the back of the head, like my dad used to do when I did something really stupid, only in these cases a lot harder, call them a moron and tell them not to make up stupid excuses for putting their finger on the trigger and pulling it when they shouldn't be.

Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Report said it happened at 1:45 am. Gee, I wonder if alcohol was involved?

    This sounds familiar.

Now that's a SPECIAL kind of stupid and it can't be cured. How difficult is it to CLEAR the gun BEFORE cleaning it, GLOCK is no more dangerous than any other gun in the hands of a MORON !!!!!!!!!!! Drop the mag, rack the slide, VISUALLY verify the chamber IS EMPTY. I'd almost guarantee, he racked the slide, which chambered another round, then dropped the mag.Pulled trigger, while muzzle was not in a safe direction obviously & BOOM OUCH !!He failed to verify the chamber was EMPTY , then he let the muzzle cover himself, another key dumb move. Had a friend who is a cop do almost the same thing, but instead of shooting himself, his round went through the locker room at the police station and FORTUNATELY no one was injured.

*Raises hand* I do. Really, I do, sometimes. It's easier without the hustle and bustle during the day. And all my guns can be disassembled without pulling the trigger.
Gun control can be blamed in part for allowing 9/11 to happen.

...was cleaning his .45-caliber Glock early this morning when it discharged and shot him in the leg...
The gun acted all of its own accord to shoot him in the leg! That's just poor aim on the gun's part.

I sold the only Glock I've ever had, one of the reasons was the trigger pull to disassemble.
