    Extreme Marksmen -History Channel

Holy Cow! Those guys are good. I caught the tail end of a thing on the History Channel on Extreme Marksmen. The last guy I saw, I thought he was unbelievable to start with...then he topped it. He used a lever-action with a small mirror mounted to the buttstock, then reversed the rifle over his shoulder and faced away from the target. He effectively shot backwards using the mirror to aim behind him. He shot a playing card ON END(side profile...as in he was shooting at a paper thin target)... at around 15 yards. He did that free standing with no support or bench rest or anything. UNBELIEVABLE!

Kind of makes you feel inadequate somehow, doesn't it? Just when you think you're a good shot someone has to come along and smack ya down a few rungs.

When it comes up again, catch the whole thing. They shoot a 22 through a washer tossed in the air and various other amazing shots. Very entertaining.

I saw part of it a couple weeks ago, so I searched it up & set the DVR to catch the whole thing today. Pretty amazing stuff there.

There was a guy on a show I saw several years back that really amazed me. He had a little .22 pump gallery rifle. He would hold it sideways, so the top ejection port was facing straight away from him. He'd jack a spent casing out, into the air in front of him. Before the casing started on a downward arc, he had the rifle shouldered with the action closed & would SHOOT THE SHELL CASING IN MIDAIR! (sorry about so many caps, it was amazing to see what came next) He did it once, he did it twice, then he got into a rhythm: "Ching-chunk-ching-chunk-ching-chunk" just about as fast as I can shoot my .22 pump, keeping it shouldered & lucky to stay on paper. (Don't worry, I've ejected a couple of casings that way just to see how far they go & how long before they hit the ground but I never tried to shoot one of them)

Great show. I watched it for the second time last night. The US Army snipers were flat out impressive.

It will be on again on Saturday, Sept 6 at 5:00 pm on the History channel.

They are also rerunning a old series called "Sniper" over the next couple of weeks.

Haven't watched it yet, but your reminder had me tape it...sounds like an interesting program.

    Thanks!

Caught a bit of the Marksman show while I was TiVo'ing it late one night. My favorite part so far is the guy who used two trigger fingers to empty his 1911's mag at a rate of 647 rounds per minute.

And then a bit later on he shot 6 rounds from his revolver at a steel target, reloaded, and shot another six . . . all in less than 3 seconds!

Not up to the show, but the best one of have heard of (for a mere mortal) was shooting oak balls with a .22 (not sure what they actually are, but they are these round things about 3/4 inch in diameter - not acorns). The shooter would throw them in a pond- probably about 10 yards) , shoot under them to launch them into the air about 20ft, then shoot them out of the air.
