I agree with all those that said the Rossi combo. We got my grandson started at an early age with a Rossi .22/.410 combo. After a few weeks he was able to destroy the center of a 50 yard bullseye with the .22 barrel, and a bit more practice could hit straight away clays with the .410. These are great starter guns. If Jake (my grandson) would give it up, I would take the little Rossi in the compact storage bag and keep it as a stashed away truck gun. Good little shooters, and inexpensive.

On a serious note if you can find a Weatherby XXII - that is one beautiful rifle.
Probably THE most accurate .22 rifle.
$$$ Though but, a worthwhile investment.
