Just their training they must ask for the age issue. I was asked and I am retired.

BTW . . . My answer was Uzi, fully automatic.

Don't shop there and never will since they now support Bloomburg.

I have only been asked once when buying 9mm. "Is this for a pistol?" I was so surprised I said "Yes, why are you asking?". I have no idea why only one store asked. (all in the same area, all W/M.)

They will only let me purchase 2 at a time watch type batteries - the flat ones - I needed for dog collars. Who knows their reasoning for asking such a question - pistol or rifle. I guess just always say rifle. They are idiots or they would know you could use it in either. No ammo after 10 or 10:30 pm here - you know that is when all the gangstas come out.

    Rifle ammo

Yep this happened to me too, but it was at the front check out. I answered yes for a pistol and had to sign some document. Everything I buy now fits a rifle.

Yes me too, even my 45acp as I have a marlin camp rifle in 45. So how can they prove me wrong (grin)

I'd like to be able to say that too. Unfortunately I live near a small town (pop <10000), and Walmart is about the only place in town., so I avoid going their as much as possible. I have never purchased ammo from there, so never been asked that question.

It depends on the Point Of Sale system they are using. Just like alcohol sales that prompt the cashiers to enter a DOB, the question is asked rifle or pistol. If there is any doubt of the customers age, a ID is supposed to be asked for.

I usually just answer the question. Once though I said, does it matter? I'm well over 21 as you can tell.

They asked me that just the other day when I was buying some .22 for the Walther P22. What is to stop someone from just saying rifle? Every time the cash register asks the clerk to confirm my pistol permit they look at it like it is written in Greek anyways so what's the point? At my ghetto Walmart there are likely many people in the store with guns, but only a very few of us with lawfully possessed guns.

BTW: I love this little plinker...

What is up with this. What the heck is a pistol permit anyway?
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

I live in NY. We need to be judicially authorized to own or carry a handgun. Authorization comes not from the police or an agency, but rather from the courts. I have a permit that authorizes me to carry concealed everywhere (except the usual restrictions govt. buildings, schools, hospitals,...) but other than that I can take it anywhere. No waiting period once the permit has been issued either. Once I have been approved (one-time process) I can buy & take home on same day. I do however have to have gun added to permit at county hall (takes about an hour including drive time) before I can take it home.

When I buy ammo at Wal Mart, they never ask me anything, regardless of what caliber it is. I guess things are just different in the Southwest.

I have never been asked either; but it is the handgun ammo to 21 and over thing. I bet it is the size of the Walmart/community you are in. I live in a smaller community in KS I will bet if I bought ammo in Kansas City or Wichita I get asked the same question and I look over 21! Walmarts register ask if the person is over 15 on knives; 18 on cigerettes and other like products; 21 on beer.

I've been asked at Wally world if my 9mm ammo was for a handgun, I says "will it work with anything else?" They then say, "I'm just asking the question that is written here".
