My new concealed carry pencil

Can anyone ID this for me? I know it was made sometime after 9/9/30 based on patent #1775178. It shoots .32/.38 cal blanks.

When I learn how to make blanks for it I will be sure to try to get a video demo of it. I have two it came with. I'd rather keep them than use them.

Yes, fairly certain.

I'm not a ballistic/bullet/firearm design expert, but I don't think it would be possible, and if it were converted one would most likely need a manufacturer license.

I used to have one of those listed on that website labeled "Colt Industries Tear Gas Pen Gun 38 cal". They shot a .38 round that was very short and were wadded with wax. I never shot it, but carried it in my car for awhile. I bought it in the early 70s....

Back before I retired and was flying with the navy, we had something similar in our survival vest called a pencil flare. It shot a .38 caliber flare round, but could also be used to shoot a .38 SPL bullet (not recommended by the the riggers however).

We still use pencil flares. I have no idea how you'd get a .38 SPL in there though. The flare screws in, and there would be nothing to hold a cartridge. However, we did shoot a flare at a tin shed, and it went through 2 layers of sheet metal.

The thing from James Bond was a pen bomb...click 3 times to arm, 3 times to disarm.
