    1911 Pistols

I love the 1911 pistol look, but most of the ones I have seen are a bit too heavy.
Can someone recommend a relatively speaking light weight 1911 pistol, 9mm or .38

You can get compact 1911's. I have two full size Springfield's but I know they make a compact model. I carry a Kahr Arms P9 but they also make a .45. I'm not sure how they measure up weight wise but their specialty is guns for carry which makes them slender and light weight.

You should be able to find a LW Colt Commander in .38 Super, there's also the Kimber Tactical II available in 9mm as well as the Aegis line, the Ultra Carry II in 9mm, and the Ultra CDP II in 9mm.

    Oh, don't forget the Springfield EMP, that's a 3" 1911 in 9mm.

what is EMP? I have small hands, so I need something with a smaller grip (not shorter) so it would make it easier for me to wrap my hand around it.

EMP is the little brother to the SA Micro Compact Loaded model in .45ACP--which is my personal choice for a carry pistol.

Yes, the EMP is made by Springfield, they re-engineered the frame so it is of a lesser overall thickness than a standard 1911, it only comes in 3" and is available in 9mm alloy frame or .40 with a steel frame.
