WASILLA -- Two Wasilla men are recovering from an accidental shooting that occurred while a gun was being cleaned.

Alaska State Troopers say 23-year-old Joshua Jones was cleaning his semiautomatic pistol Thursday evening when the weapon accidentally discharged.

Troopers say the bullet went through Jones' left hand and then struck 26-year-old Clayton Naczi in the thigh.

Both men were taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center. Troopers say the men are in stable condition.

Well you know stupidity abounds everywhere it seems.

Maybe Sarah Palin needs to go back to her hometown and start teaching some gun safety courses.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

When it comes to stupidity this was definitely a '2-fer'...I wonder if this cleaning session started with a "Watch this..."?

    Stay armed...clean guns alone...stay safe!

I suspect what happens is someone is wipping down their weapon...and the rag or whatever gets caught in the trigger. Be interesting to hear what kind of make and model...some have very very easy pulls.

Why would you be wiping it down after cleaning it, after you reloaded the weapon. Maybe I do things in the wrong order, but I only load the pistol after I get done with the cleaing and the wipe down. Then I load it and put in back into my holster or back into the safe where it is ready if I need it.

Agreed...not saying it was the way...but it is stories like these that fuel the anti campus carry crowd. Can one imagine the scenario...

Look on the bright side. It's awful nice having a friend accompany you to the hospital and they can share a room.

I dare say that no one has ever been shot in the actual act of cleaning a firearm.

Usually it's the easiest story to come up with, when not wanting to say what really happened.

I was cleaning my gun is easier to spit out than..I'm an idiot and here's what happened.
