    Qustion about an AR-15 pistol

    If you had a ar-15 pistol with a full length tube, and someone saw you firing it using the tube positioned on your shoulder (ala rifle) would this put you i violation of the law for having a unlicensed sbr? I would't think it would as it is registered as a pistol and legal to own, but I think it could be a nasty situation if you were seen b the wrong person.

    Pistol kinda like this;

    No. Definition of SBR and Pistol refers to the design of the weapon, not the method of shooting. Now, if you attached anything to the buffer tube, to assist you in firing it from the shoulder, even something like a foam pad duct taped on, then you have problems.

    I realize that I'm an old fashioned geezer but I can't see a real niche for an AR pistol in .223. It may or may not look tacti-cool but would be a dud for shooting at rifle distances when compared to a proper rifle and it is a gross, unwieldy notion of a pistol. The .223 would be diminished in performance when fired from such a short barrel.

    But what do I know. Could such a firearm have a particular efficient capability not more appropriately met with something more conventional?

    Agreed Navy.

    The definitions of as much by the US Code and as interpreted by the BATFE are all based on design of the firearm...not it's handling or usage by the operator.

    Thatis pretty much what I figured, butI was just wanting more insight from other people. I have a c&r license, but thought this was a nifty piece that wouldn't require a tax and transfer. You never know when you are going to run across an over zealous person who hates the world

    I understand your points, and do not disagree with you completely. The purpose would definately not be long range use, but placed against the shoulder with a halo sight would be prety devistating at short range.

    Well I am sure I could get 50 reasons from people why not to get it. I have over 80 "standard pistols" of various types, calibers and brands. I just thought it was unique. I am not looking to throw it under my trench coat and carry it around.

    That would be a real fashion faux pas. If you are going to wear it under a trench coat you really need to have a matched pair!

    I have a friend in a high value items delivery business that has an AR pistol with optics (in 9mm IIRC) and he carries it under his jacket while working. Great deterrent! I handled it (not shot it) and it is a beautiful thing and less awkward than I would imagine. I would not mind owning one at all.
    You have to make the shot when fire is smoking, people are screaming, dogs are barking, kids are crying and sirens are coming.
