    BB Gun for My Son

Happy Thanksgiving Day to all! I have decided to buy my 4-year-old son his first "firearm" this Christmas. I am looking for a BB gun to get for him. The key is that it must be fun to shoot.

He is about 40 lbs. and probably about 3.5 feet tall. I want the BB gun to be comfortable to shoot properly.

    Any specific suggestions?

I started out, as did millions of young Americans, with a Red Ryder. Very basic design... might try that one.

Hey, if it was good enough for Ralphie in "A Christmas Story" it's good enough for us right? Just be careful or "You'll shoot your eye out". ha!!!!! Sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Hey, who's got the Red Ryder "Don't Shoot Yer' Eye Out" game that was here a year or two ago?

Yup Red Ryder with it's lever action for sure!

A pump is a pain especially for a young one.

The Red Ryder will shoot 10 shots to the effort of a pumps 1 shot (10 pumps)

and that makes it a heck of a lot more fun! IMO

Bass Pro is running a special on Red Ryders because of the new Christmas Wonderland. It is only a 4 day sale so FWIW

    Red Ryder ... its "tradition"

IMHO, he's a little young but if you are diligent in supervision and educating him in firearm safety, you may be OK.

He could be. I was a little surprised to find myself reading a "suggested for kids 10 years or older" on the Red Ryder link from Daisy's website. I think I was about 10 when I got mine. He's a fantastic kid- listens well, obeys us (most of the time) and I think he can handle it responsibly in my presence.

I guess I am glad I did not buy him the .410 shotgun I was thinking about instead
