    Sight installation cost?

I am thinking about getting my sights replaced to another system, but trying to get some grasp of what sight installation costs from gunsmith as I wouldn't mind purchasing the tool myself if the cost is outrageous.

What kind of gun? Most shops will install for free if you purchase the sights from them, otherwise 10-20 dollars for most guns. Some are harder than others, but most popular makes are pretty easy.

Depends on what sort of sights you're going to get. Some sets come with basic instructions and installation tools from what I hear.

This would be for G23 and P7 for now. I have to buy it online as selection on sights where I live are limited and there are no Heinie 8 sights here.

Depending on your smith and the gun/sight combo, it can be as high as $60. I wouldn't pay more than $20.

A safe-side triangular file from Brownells, a nylon punch and a 4-8oz. hammer are all you need.

I wouldn't mind doing this myself, but I am not sure whether it is worth buying all the tools for one-time installation.

However, has anyone used the universal sight tool from Midway (also sold by others as well)?

I wouldn't call it an easy task...requires tools.
Either one of my two gunshops will install any I buy for free. (I'm sure the cost is in there somewhere, but if slightly off...will adjust for free, too! (always have been right on)

If you support a particular gun shop, they should do lots of special things for you...it's been my experience.

Check the Heine website, I believe they charge $25 for the installation, as long as no milling of the slide is required.

If there is milling/machine work involved then expect to pay more depending on how complex the work.

I had a set of night sights put on a sig p6. Gunsmith charged $45 for just installation. I bought the sights in advance. They cost about $60.
