Police Recover 127 Guns Stolen From Store - Portland News Story - KPTV Portland

On Nov. 30, someone broke into the Brightwater Ventures gun store on Northeast 60th Way and stole 130 firearms -- mostly handguns -- in less than 10 minutes.

Now four people are in custody and nearly all of the guns are in the hands of federal agents

Even though it is a Vancouver case, all of the guns are in the custody of ATF agents at their office in Portland.

Despite the magnitude of the case, investigators said they the guns were all stolen by a couple of teenagers.

Authorities had few clues in the case until last Wednesday when police from Pierce County in Washington called to say that a 15-year-old boy brought a stolen gun to school.

Officials ran the serial number, matched it to the Brightwater break-in and everything led to an apartment where ATF agents and Vancouver's Career Criminal Apprehension Team served a warrant Wednesday night.

Officials said they found nearly all of the guns stashed in suitcases in the apartment and at another location in Portland.

Leslie Sultani, who lives in the neighborhood where most of the guns were found, was stunned.

"(I was) really shocked because everyone around here is very nice, and I never thought anything like that would be possible," Sultani said.

But the primary renters at the apartment were just as surprised.

They knew nothing about the guns because their 19-year-old relative secretly stashed them there, police said.

Police said they think the man's 15-year-old brother came down to visit, the two broke into the gun store together and the younger teen took a gun back up north as a souvenir.

Investigators said they have found all but three of the guns and Sultani said she's just relieved they are no longer next door.

"That makes me feel very happy because I have two kids living here," Sultani said. "It makes me feel safer."

Along with those two brothers who police think stole the guns, another adult and child were also taken into custody in connection with the case.

Police and the public are very fortunate that all but three were recovered. More customers for the Crossbar Hotel. 130 firearms in 10 minutes - quick little boogers.

You think they are going to be returned? or somehow lost in paperwork for an eternity? Either way, glad they are out of the felons' hands.

Actually the store owners insurance will probably do everything they can do to have them returned, otherwise they will have to pay off on the insurance claim. Now if it were you or me, no we would probably never see them again.

They should'a turned them in to LA's "Guns For Giftcard" program.

I don't know how you could even think the BATF could misplace a weapon

Kudos to the agents with the ATF (and any others) who were responsible for tracking things down.

... the guns were all stolen by a couple of teenagers.

Vancouver's Career Criminal Apprehension Team served a warrant Wednesday night.
15yrs old, and already in the sights of the Career Criminal Apprehension Team. He's right on track to be a dead man by age 20. I hope he's happy.

Leslie Sultani, who lives in the neighborhood where most of the guns were found, was stunned.

"(I was) really shocked because everyone around here is very nice, and I never thought anything like that would be possible," Sultani said.
She (and millions of others) needs to wake up and smell the cosmoline. ANYTHING is possible, anymore. Nobody should be surprised that predators are capable of and willing to do most anything these days, even if those predators are teens.

For most non-mom-and-pop gun stores, it isn't possible to put them all in a safe.

I know one store locally got robbed by going in through the roof. That was the one place they didn't reinforce.
