    Any Thought On a Taurus 82 Service

    I am looking for a 38 revolver. The Taurus 82 Service is priced right but after reading some reviews of their products there seems to be some QC issues.

    Is it a good choice or should I save for a while and look at a something like a Smith & Wesson 67

    Thanks in advance for you help.

    Merry Christmas
    Craig

    Hi Craig;

    Only my opinion but I'm not too keen on either of them.

    I'd be a bit reluctant to take a chance on the Taurus due to the spotty QC reputation. I also would want no part of a new Smith & Wesson Model 67 with the lock feature which is capable of locking the revolver during use.

    There's several good used "pre-lock" Smith & Wesson Model 67 revolvers on GunBroker just now, some for less than $400. Smith & Wesson revolvers (the "traditional" ones at least) wear in not out. I'd not be afraid of a high quality Model 67 that had previous use. If future resale is a consideration for you then the "pre-lock" model also has more market appeal.

    I have a Model 15 which blued steel version of the Model 67 and it is a really fine revolver for general purpose handgun use. I love 4-inch .38 Special revolvers.

    Craig,

    My wife has a Taurus model 80 wich I belive is the earlier version of th 82. We have owned this weapon since new in 1992 and it has given excellent service and showes no sign of excessive wear. We have put about 3000 rounds of standard pressure 38 special ammunition through this 3" barreled revolver as well as about 100 rounds of +P. I would buy another Taurus revolver without hesitation. It still doing duty as my wifes "house gun" and she claims full ownership of the revolver calling it "her gun".
