When I help out in a gun shop some one brought a 357 mag that exploited he gave it to us and we used it as an exampled for safety. and a paper weight. he did not get hurt but scare the crap out of him.

The one indoor range I go to occasionally has a Ruger GP100 with the cylinder blown in half on display. No matter how well built a gun is, there is always a way to defeat it. I've always thought Ruger's wheel guns were built like tanks, but of course there are also ways to defeat a tank. Next to it sits a Jennings 9mm pistol with the barrel and slide blown in half, that did not surprise me.

The range I go to has a .357 magnum with an 8" barrel. 3 of the cylinder chambers are completely blown out. To hear the range guys tell it, the owner was loading weaker rounds because he wanted to look cool but couldn't deal with recoil. Something about the rounds spending too long in the cylinder caused too much pressure, eventually weakening the metal.

I watched a revolver explode live once. My brother was shooting a ruger .44 mag when the cylinder exploded causing at least two more rounds to go off. Thankfully, the blast went up and to the side. To this day my father, whose gun it was, swears that he had factory loads in it. The rest of us remember the cheap gun show reloads he had.

Many years ago at a gunshop I used to hang out at a customer brought in a Ruger Super Blackhawk. The upper chamber and two adjacent chambers were blown out. He finally admitted that while reloading he ran out of 2400, well since 2400 and Bullseye look the same he figured he would just substitute Bullseye instead and that was the result. Surprisingly the ‘smith sent it back to Ruger, they inspected it and found no frame stretching or damage, after fitting a new cylinder it was returned good as new. Never ever try to identify a powder by appearance, if you don’t know throw it out and never substitute without checking a good reloading manual.
Downloaded Best Bottle Opener and saved it to my Ipod.
