On a SA 1911 from 1995 is the serial number stamped anywhere else other than the outside of the gun (inside the slide, mag well, etc.)
A friend of mine got his stolen and the crooks attempted to scratch off the serial number on the outside - looks horrible. Can he get it restamped, reissued, fixed cosmetically, or is there a serial number somewhere else?
I know it is a weird question but I thought some of you may know.
The frame CAN be re-serial numbered with the exact same serial number but it must meet the ATF location, depth, & height requirements.
The guidelines should be on the ATF web site or call your local ATF office.
I'm sure the manufacturer would be able to grind it down (legally and professionally), and then restamp it to specs. I'm sure to get it looking top notch it will require a full refinish.

Contact springfield, They will fix everything for you the samething happened to a friend of mine.
Look at the inside of the slide behind the ejection port. Some higher end Springers have the serial number engraved in there.
