Nice positive report. I was impressed that the instructor pushed safety so hard prior to range time.

I've always enjoyed shooting guns. I used to own a farm and my son and I were always doing target practice.

Sold the farm, moved to town...so now I have to go to an indoor range. It's better than nothing.

I never see women at the range. I only have one female friend who likes to shoot.

I guess most women are afraid of guns.

They really don't know what they're missing.

We finally checked an outdoor range close by (45 mi.).
The pistol/rifle line had about 20 positions and there were about 10 shooters; 2 of them were women, one was with an instructor.
After we got set up, there was 12 shooters and 3 girls (my wife was with me) that's 25%.
The first rule of a gunfight: "Don't be there !"
The second rule: "Bring enough gun"

If Nikki thinks hanging a target in the garage will deter BG's it may but then again it may just forewarn them there is at least one gun in the house

A lot of them are. Between lack of knowledge, the stereotypical machoness that goes with guns, and the danger in their improper use, most women steer clear of them.

I prefer to go to the indoor range on ladies night, because being around other females is more comforting. Otherwise I am the one lone female in a room full of (I assume) knowledgeable and well-practiced males, which makes me feel uncomfortable -- like I don't quite belong.

My daughter-in-law didn't want my son to teach her to shoot, she wanted me - for the same reason... another female was more comfortable to be around, and to shoot with. She trusted me to be understanding, coach her without insults, praise her for doing well, and tell her of safety errors without making her feel stupid.

In general, men don't even think of those things; women do.

We women need to bring more women to guns, and to the ranges.

We've actually got a few women shooting our local IDPA matches, and if I'm not mistaken, the number of women shooting our matches is slowly increasing.

G - If you're shooting, you belong. The guys are probably concentrating on their shooting, not yours. Also, their knowledge could come in handy. Most blowhards are full of it, or full of outdated information.

Actually, I've found men to be very helpful and polite.

It's my son who gets real bossy.

But, he's the same way on the golf course. I love it when I beat him. It doesn't happen very often, but when it does...IT IS SO SWEET!
