Did you buy new or used, has the 40c been worked on before?
Are you fully depressing the sear lever in the mag well?

There should be a tool in the frame to depress the sear lever in the magwell. Press that, then rotate the takedown lever. You can also pull the trigger instead of hitting the sear lever...I think the tool is there so people aren't afraid of pulling the trigger during disassembly.

When my 40c was new the sear lever would snap back up, had to hold down for disassembly. Now that the weapon has been in service for a while it's no longer a issue.
Pulling the trigger works but it's an off manual procedure, safer to use the lever.
Have heard of improper disabling of mag disconnects causing issues for field stripping.
